Late Bloomer

Welcome

Welcome to Late Bloomer and my little corner of the internet.

On the Garden page you’ll read a little about the Dandelion Gardens project. What it is, the goal of the project, etc.

On the blog  (column) space the posts are a combination of topics ranging from organic gardening techniques and projects to wildcrafting herbs and wild edible plants in Northwest Arkansas. You'll also find some personal observations about life in general.

The Library is an offering of books from Amazon.com and other places around the web, including free online videos, etc. This is a work in progress and I expect to build it up over time and hope to have a wide selection of educational materials available to visitors including several ebooks and videos that can be downloaded.

Ozarkana is a blog at wordpress that focuses on wild edibles and gardening. I also post the Wild Arkansas column there, so if you're interested in wild edibles of the Ozarks go take a peek.

I hope you enjoy your stay here.
Carla

Whom am I?

Carla R. Herrera: 46 year old single female author and writer with dog. Passionate about writing, learning, organic gardening, foraging wild food, herbs, nature and life in general.

I live and work in NW Arkansas and am available for nature walks, foraging adventures and plant identification help and other fun, imaginative things.

In the past few years, my efforts at making a real living through freelance writing has been a bit of a bust, so I've had to re-invent a career (if you can call it that) and do many different things: I teach internet navigation and creating a presence online and pick up a few freelance writing jobs on occasion; started the Dandelion Garden Project, and hope to begin teaching classes on growing food in small spaces in May and sell some produce at a local farmer's market. I also work at a local retail outlet part-time.

Though writing is still the preferred dream, I've learned to accept that life doesn't always go according to plan and enjoy much of what I do.

I'm also a firm believer in giving back to the community, so I've joined the GWA Plant A Row program and will be giving part of our year's harvest to local families and will offer free seed to those who are interested in creating their own small vegetable plots, but don't have the finances to start.

About Jack

Jack is a one-year old Jack Russel terrier and chihuahua mix. He's a bit of a pain and doesn't like to listen to me at times, but he's loyal, affectionate, loves foraging, chasing his tail, running after imaginary foes and doesn't mind getting dirty.

You may also find Jack sneaking into more than a few photos I post here. He's a bit of a ham and can't stand the thought that anything is more interesting than his good looks and winning personality.
